The Moon

Hi. I am Emad, and I like to learn about space. The moon is in spance. This webpage is about what I learned in school about the moon. You can learn more from Wikipedia.

New Moon

1. New Moon

The 1st phase is the New Moon. The New Moon looks like nothing but it is still there. This is because it is too close to the sun.

Waxing Crescent

2. Waxing Crescent

The 2nd phase is the Waxing Crescent. Waxing means growing bigger. It looks like a finger nail except it is not. We can see it from late morning to post-dusk.

First Quarter

3. First Quarter

The 3rd phase is the First Quarter moon. It looks like half of the moon is illuminated, but only the quarter is illuminated because we see only half of the moon from earth. We can see it from the fternoon to early evening.

Waxing Gibbous

4. Waxing Gibbous

The 4th phase is the Waxing Gibbous. Gibbous means swollen or convex. In this phase, the moon appears high in the east when the sun sets. We can see it starting from late afternoon and most of the night.

Full Moon

5. Full Moon

The moon is compltely illuminated. We can see it all night, from sunset to sunrise. The night is not very dark.

Waning Gibbous

6. Waning Gibbous

Now, the opposite happens. The moon starts to shrink. It gets smaller.

Last Quarter

7. Last Quarter

The moon is now half lit. This is like the First Quarter, but it is the opposite.

Waning Crescent

8. Waning Crescent

The moon becomes a crescent again. But this time, it is the oppposite side. We see it before sun rise. After that, a new moon comes again.
